 Are you aware of the new UCAS Tariff?

The new Tariff uses a qualification size and grading scale to generate a total number of points per qualification.  For example, an A* grade at A level under the old system was 140 points, and under the new Tariff, an A* at A level will be 56 points.

Full Time University Level Courses

Applying for a Higher National Diploma (HND), Higher National Certificate (HNC), Foundation Degree and Degree course

  1. Impartial information, advice and guidance – we will help you explore your options and find the right course – call our Student Advisers on 0151 551 7777 or pop in to see them at our Conway Park Campus
  2. Apply
    1. You need to apply for a full-time Degree, Foundation Degree or HND programme via UCAS (Universities and College Admissions Service) at www.ucas.co.uk. Each electronic application sent to UCAS must be accompanied by a fee (full details on the UCAS website).
    2. If you are applying for Teacher Training, you need to complete a University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) application form. Contact Student Services for details on 0151 551 7777.
    3. Details of how to apply electronically are available on the UCAS website. UCAS applications start from 1st September.
    4. The college’s UCAS code number is W73, details of the subject codes are listed on the course information pages of this website. You will need these codes to apply for your course and your student loan.
    5. Please take care when completing your Personal Statement – if you need advice or guidance with this, please speak to a Student Adviser on 0151 551 7777.
  3. Interview
    1. We usually invite a candidate to visit the college to attend an interview with a Course Tutor.
  4. Offer
    1. If you meet the entry requirements, are successful at interview and your place does not depend on fulfilling other requirements e.g examination results, you will receive an unconditional offer through UCAS for a place on the course. You will need to confirm you want to accept this offer.
    2. If your place depends upon examination results you will receive a conditional offer through UCAS, confirming the requirements you need to meet. You will need to confirm you want to accept this offer.
  5. Confirmation of examination results
    1. As soon as you receive confirmation of your exam results, and they meet the requirements set out in your conditional offer letter, please contact the Admissions team at the college to confirm your place on the course.
    2. If you don’t receive the exam results you expected and they do not meet the requirements of the course, please contact the Student Advisers at the college for advice on alternative course options.
    3. Once you have confirmed your place on the course, you will be invited to come in and complete your enrolment.
  6. Enrolment
    1. Details of how to enrol will be sent to you, with instructions on what you need to do next.
    2. When you come into college to enrol, you will need to bring:
      1. proof of your identity e.g. passport, driving licence or other accepted form of national ID card or your National Insurance (NI) number
      2. evidence of your qualifications (original certificates)
      3. anything else you were asked to show as a condition of your offer
      4. means of payment or confirmation letter from Student Loan Company
  7. Start your course!

Remember to apply as early as possible, as some courses are very popular and fill up quickly!

Part-time University Level Courses

Applying for a course is easy!

Applying for HNC/HND, Foundation Degree, Degree and all Teaching Education courses:

  1. Impartial information, advice and guidance – we will help you explore your options and find the right course - call our Student Advisers on 0151 551 7777, or pop in to see them at our Conway Park Campus.
  2. Apply
    1. Visit courses to apply online, or
    2. Post your application form to Admissions, Wirral Met College, Conway Park Campus, Europa Boulevard, CH41 4NT or bring it into one of the campuses. We will acknowledge its safe arrival.
    3. If you are applying for Teacher Training, you need to also complete an University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) application form.
  3. Interview
    1. You will be invited into the College to meet the tutors for an interview; some courses also have as assessment and / or presentation to complete during the interview.
    2. Some courses require you to present a portfolio of your work.
    3. You can discuss any learning support needs you may have.
  4. Offer
    1. If you meet the entry requirements on your course and are successful at interview, we will offer you a place at the college (this may be conditional on the results of any qualification you may be currently studying).
    2. You will need to confirm you want to accept your offer.
  5. Keeping in touch
    1. We will keep in touch with you and let you know how and when you can complete your enrolment, before you start your course.
    2. Don't forget, if you change your phone number(s) or email address, please let us know.
  6. Enrolment
    1. If you have a conditional offer, you must confirm your place as soon as you have received your results.
    2. When you come into college to enrol, you will need to bring:
      1. proof of your identity (eg a bank/debit card, national insurance number/card/letter or passport, driving licence or other accepted form of national ID)
      2. evidence of your qualifications (original certificates)
      3. anything else you were asked to show as a condition of your offer
      4. Means of payment or confirmation letter from the Student Loan Company for your HE funding

Our Twelve Quays Campus is easily accessible by public transport - a few minutes from Woodside Ferry Terminal and Birkenhead Hamilton Square train station, and just ten minutes’ walk from Birkenhead Bus Station.

Wirral Met College’s brand new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre opened at its Twelve Quays Campus in Birkenhead in September 2016.

 

The new STEM Centre brings together a number of key technology disciplines embracing specialist, industry-standard equipment and enabling students to develop their skills for a wide range of careers.

The new centre includes every aspect of engineering design and development, a dedicated digital technology learning zone, new robotic equipment and enhanced Science laboratories.  It also houses specialist facilities to support training in the logistics sector, with the development of practical skills in warehousing, fork-lift truck driving, supply chain management and warehouse management. 

Wirral Met has been working closely with key industry and university partners at the forefront of STEM initiatives to ensure the STEM Centre is built to meet the needs a thriving economy.  The college has been leading the design and delivery of education and training that supports the high profile area of STEM for many years, and its work has been recognised by awards such as the Cogent UK Life Science Skills Provider of the Year Award, sponsored by The Science Council. 

Many students studying at the college have already progressed onto university, apprenticeships and a wide range of careers in the STEM sector, and this number is set to grow significantly with the opening of this dedicated STEM Centre.

Our new multi-million pound Wirral Waters Campus, Tower Road, Birkenhead CH41 1AA, opened in September 2015.

The Wirral Waters Campus, dedicated to delivering training and education for Construction and the Built Environment, and providing a Skills and Enterprise Centre for local employers, will play a key part in the regeneration of the wider economy.  This is the first key landmark on Peel Group’s Wirral Waters development, one half of the Mersey Waters Enterprise Zone.   Take a look at the time lapse video.

 

Morgan Sindall and Wirral Met College involved students at every stage of the new Wirral Waters Campus development, and provided learning opportunities to existing Wirral Met construction students, giving them an insight into all aspects of a major construction project and first-hand experience on a live project.
