This course is focused towards students seeking to gain a vocationally related qualification in exercise, fitness and health. This practically focused qualification will develop the skills to plan and instruct gym-based exercise and plan and implement sport and leisure activities. The course incorporates the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction (gym based) and the Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Training. On successful completion of this qualification, you will be entered onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS register).

Course details

Units of study will include:

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise
  • Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health
  • Planning gym-based exercise
  • Instructing gym-based exercise
Entry guidelines

You should have a relevant Level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above (preferably including English and maths).

You will be required to successfully complete an aptitude test in the gym as part of the application process.

Assessment Method

The course is assessed using a combination of practical and portfolio-based activities.
