This course is for anyone who is interested in Criminology. It will give you some of the base concepts in the area and is a starting point of exactly what Criminology is, what it tells us about Society and how it is used day to day.

Course details

The aim of this course is to offer a starting point for you to acquire skills and build your confidence to progress on to further learning, employment or volunteering. The course will cover the following topics: Sociological explanations of Crime, Reliability of Evidence, Criminological Statistics, Social Control and Causes of Crime.
On completion you will receive a Wirral Met College certificate to acknowledge your attendance and learning, and understanding of the subject at this level.

Entry guidelines

You do not need formal qualifications,
You must be able to interpret written tasks, be willing to work independently, write answers in a legible and understandable form and organise written information clearly and coherently.

Assessment Method

You will be assessed by completing a work booklet that consists of a variety of tasks related to the subject, such as, short answer questions, completing tables, finding information, identifying evidence and writing about the subject.

There are a number of programmes you can move onto from this course, for example the Introduction to Sociology or Introduction to Psychology.
Depending on previous qualifications, you may want to consider a progression course such as Pre Access for Progression.
