Are you interested in food, cooking and providing a quality service within the Hospitality & Catering industry? Would you like to gain a qualification that will teach you the basics about food preparation, food and beverage service and an understanding of the industry and further training or career options? If the answer is yes then this could be the course for you! The study programme aims to introduce you to the principles of Hospitality & Catering, providing you with the confidence to progress within the industry of further your education at Wirral Metropolitan College. The course is based on practical assessment, some assignment writing and will include maths and English.

Course details

On this course you will learn about:

  • Working in a professional kitchen
  • Maintaining a safe and secure working environment
  • Understanding the Hospitality & Catering industry
  • Health, Safety and Food Hygiene (including Food Allergens Awareness)
  • Healthy eating
  • Cooking skills such as boiling, poaching, steaming, braising, baking etc.
  • Food, Beverage and Customer Service (through work experience and
    enrichment)
Entry guidelines
  • Relevant Entry level qualification or three GCSEs at grades 2/E or above to include English or other related qualifications and experience.
  • Satisfactory interview, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

    Equipment Required

    Kitchen and Restaurant uniform required (this may be paid for you if you are eligible to receive a student bursary)

    You will be assessed in a number of ways which may include:

    • Portfolio
    • Assignments
    • Practical assessments
    Additional Information

    As part of your study programme you will undertake internal and external work experience and will be provided with the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities such as trips, visits and employment opportunities at events such as Chester races. A positive reference from school, employer or tutor (if progressing or from another college) is required, together with excellent attendance and punctuality records.

    • Level 2 Diploma in Culinary skills
    • Level 2 NVQ in Professional Cookery
    • Full time employment

      Fee : £640.00
