This five week course aims to give you the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge for the Health and Social Care sector. It provides an introduction to aspects of Health and Social Care and an idea of what working in Health and Social Care is like. This course will enable you to explore career options and progression opportunities within the sector.

Course details

This course will introduce you to some of the skills required to help you on a career pathway in Health and Social Care. You will also gain experience in employability and enterprise skills. And though guest speakers and visits gain knowledge of the different jobs within the sector. This course may also help to develop your personal and social skills which employers look for. You will be given support and guidance throughout the programme to help you progress with your education.

Entry guidelines

<p>Aged 16 to 18 years.</p>
<p>Relevant Entry Level qualification or 3 GCSEs at Grade 2/E or above.</p> 
<p>Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.</p>
<p>You will have an interest in working in the field of health and/or social care, community or volunteer work.</p>
<p>If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144.</p>

Additional Information

Regular attendance throughout the programme is important in order for you to achieve the qualification and progress onto a higher level of study.
Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma

Meaningful work experience or preparation for work

English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths

Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

Where can I progress to?

This short course may enable you to progress to our one year BTEC Level 1 /2 First Certificate in Health and Social Care.

When does this course run?

  • Starts 25th Jan 2018 - Ends 30th Mar 2018 Ref J118J001

    If you are aged 16-18:

    This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

    If you are aged 19 or over:

    Fee : £160.00

    Depending on your personal circumstances, this course could be FREE for you. Please see our Fees and Discounts leaflet for details, or call 0151 551 7777.

    The fee quoted is for the academic year 2017-18. Course fees for 2018-19 will be confirmed in due course.
