This is a part-time day course. You will study basic womens' hairdressing.

Course details

The course will include the underpinning knowledge and skills to enable you to: Shampoo Condition Cut Set Blowdry Perm Colour Related skills and the required knowledge will also be studied including: Reception studies Client care Team work Creating a positive impression During the course you will have the opportunity to attend National shows and exhibitions where you can see demonstrations by some of the countries leading Hairdressers.

Entry guidelines

You need to have a genuine interest in Hairdressing as a long term career. An ability to communicate one to one e.g. to a tutor or client and in a group as part of a discussion. Minimum level 1 Literacy. Reading - Much of the course material is presented in work books. You need an ability to read and understand these work books. Technical language will be taught on the course. Writing You need to produce written assignments. Numeracy skills are required as you will need to be able to work with treatment materials and handle money. You need the skills for fine work such as applying colours, perming and cutting hair. You may be expected to work under pressure and to stand for periods of time.

Equipment Required

You will need to provide your own equipment and overalls following the College uniform code. The approximate cost is £180.

Assessment Method

Assessments continue throughout the course. Practical assessment are carried out and written assignments are completed. In addition there are VTCT End Tests.

Additional Information

An early application is recommended for this course. An interview for all candidates will be arranged with a member of the teaching team where you will have an opportunity to discuss the course. During your interview you will take an apptitude/skills test. All applicants will need a reference. Initially you will work towards gaining a level 1 NCFE qualification. This will run one day per week from March until June 2018. Once sucessfully completed you will work towards gaining a VTCT level 2 NVQ in Hairdressing. This will run two days per week from Septermber 2018 to April 2019.
