This is a follow-on course from the Introduction to Hairdressing and is offered during the evening.

Course details

You will study basic ladies hairdressing including:

  • Shampooing
  • Conditioning
  • Setting
  • Blowdrying
  • Cutting
  • Colouring
  • Pre-lightening (bleaching)

Related skills and the required knowledge will also be studied including:

  • Client care
  • Team work
  • Use of resources

During your course there may be opportunities for attending National shows and exhibitions where you can see some of the countries leading Hairdressers demonstrate. Once a year we hold a College show and you are welcome to participate.

Entry guidelines
  • Relevant level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above.
  • Successfully completed the Introduction to Hairdressing course (G015)
  • You need the skills for fine work such as applying colours, cutting and styling hair. You will be expected to stand for periods of time.

Equipment Required

You are expected to already have equipment (same kit as for G015 Introduction to Hairdressing feeder course), but it will be necessary to buy uniform at an approximate cost of £25.

Assessment Method

Practical assessments continue throughout the course and written assignments are completed. In addition there are VTCT End Tests.

Additional Information

If you have a placement in a salon and the salon employs someone who holds a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement you may also be able to achieve assessments in the industry.

  • An ability to communicate one to one e.g. to a tutor or client and in a group as part of a discussion.
  • Communication with clients, reading and writing needed for completion of exams. Technical language will be taught on the course.
  • Whilst high levels of maths are not required, you will need to be able to measure out products, work to specific treatment times etc.
  • Where can I progress to?

    You may gain positions working as a stylist in hairdressing salons in the UK area and abroad, on cruise liners, in theatre, films and television. Once you have completed your Level 2 you have the opportunity to apply for Level 3 and advance your skills and knowledge.
