This FREE course aims to develop your confidence in a range of writing and reading activities and develop your spelling, grammar and punctuation as well as your oral skills.

Course details

This course will help you to improve your reading; brush up your spelling, grammar and punctuation; cope better with forms and letters; improve your speaking and listening and obtain a national qualification. You will take part in group discussions and talk about a variety of reading materials. You will also have the opportunity to develop the skills required to find information using dictionaries and thesauruses. You will have your own plan of work which you will negotiate with your tutor.

To join and be successful on this course you will need to have completed the assessment process.

You will work towards a City & Guilds qualification or a College Certificate
Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

With hard work you can progress on to Move On English or a wide range of other academic and vocational courses that require communication skills.
