The course aims to expand the ability of students to constructively analyse pieces of writing.

Course details

The written exam is worth 100% of the final mark.

  • Exam paper
  • Section A: Imaginative writing
  • Section B: Transactional writing (evaluation and analysis of written texts.

In addition you are required to complete a Speaking and Listening assessment.

  • Spoken language
    • Spoken language study task
    • Writing for spoken language

These areas are assessed for Speaking and Listening assessment:

  • Communicating and adapting language
  • Interacting and responding and creating and sustaining a role

Assessment Method

Written exam paper, based on set texts, and speaking and listening assessment.

Additional Information

An ability to meet deadlines and organise own study and to work with a degree of independence.

Communication skills - Ability to communicate effectively on a one to one basis e.g. with tutors, students and in a group as part of a discussion. You should also have the confidence to talk to a larger group on a prepared topic. Individual, pair and group oral activities are a formally assessed part of the course.
