Course details

This VRQ offers an ideal step to the Vocational Competence Qualification (VCQ) for those who are employed, and wish to continue with their studies, as the knowledge at Level 2 meets that of the related VCQ. This qualification also forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the IMI SSC Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship framework (for the Light Vehicle). It counts towards a Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Entry guidelines

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 1 or Fast Fit level 2 or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above. Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

Equipment Required

Appropriate safety equipment is required including protective overalls and steel toe capped boots.

Assessment Method

Students are assessed through practical assessments, on line theory questions and exams. The assessment of this VRQ is made up of 2 components: a. IMI Awards set Practical Tasks b. IMI Awards set Online Testing

Additional Information

You must attend regularly and punctually. Information Technology - Basic computer skills would be an advantage but not essential. Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C or Grade 4 or above in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips
