The Carpentry and Joinery Level 2 Diploma is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of people, enabling them to work in the industry in their chosen craft. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the test(s) are based on the student showing what they can do as an individual through the completion of all the requirement of the qualification.

Course details

Level 2 Diploma units Unit 201/601 - Health, safety and welfare in construction. Unit 202/602 - Principle of building construction, information and communication Unit 207 - Carry out first fix flooring and roofing Unit 208 - Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs Unit 209 - Carry out second fixing operations Unit 210 - Carry out maintenance Unit 211 - Set up and operate a circular saw

Entry guidelines

Relevant level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above and successful completion of a skills test. Satisfactory interview, school report and / or satisfactory reference.

Equipment Required

Students will be expected to supply their own steel toe cap safety boots and drawing equipment.

Assessment Method

Assessment will be completed by practical and online tests.

Additional Information

The course requires manual dexterity and physical stamina. You will need to lift and handle tools and materials.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (Grade 4 or above) in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

Successful completion of this course may mean you can progress to Carpentry & Joinery Level 3 Diploma or NVQ level 2/3 Carpentry & Joinery (if you gain an apprenticeship).
