This course will help you to develop basic brickwork skills and includes health and safety, storing resources & materials, access platforms, working practices, setting out and brick/blocklaying skills.

Course details

This course will enable you to study a wide range of skills, all of which will help you on your chosen career pathway, moving into employment or further training. You will get the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification linked to your chosen career. This course will help you to improve your English, maths plus develop the personal and social skills which employers look for. You will be given support and guidance throughout, and your progress will be reviewed with you regularly.

  • 101 Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • 102 Contribute to setting out and building of masonry structures up to damp proof course
  • 103 Carrying out blocklaying activities
  • 104 Carrying out bricklaying activities
  • 105 Carrying out cavity walling activities
  • 201 Health, safety and welfare in construction
Entry guidelines

Relevant Entry level qualification or 3 GCSE's at grade 2/E or above and successful completion of a skills test. Satisfactory interview, school report and / or reference.

Assessment Method

Assessment will be completed by practical and online tests.

Additional Information

The course requires manual dexterity and physical stamina. You will need to lift and handle tools and materials.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths (or grade 4 or above)
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

Successful completion of this course may mean you can progress to:

  • Level 2 Diploma Brickwork
  • NVQ level 2 Brickwork if you gain an apprenticeship
