The Plastering Level 1 Diploma is designed to prepare students to enter the industry in their chosen craft. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions.

Course details

This course will enable you to study a wide range of skills, all of which will help you on your chosen career pathway, moving into employment or further training. You will get the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification linked to your chosen career. Units

  • Unit 101: Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Unit 201: Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Unit 121: Prepare background surfaces and mix plastering materials
  • Unit 122: Apply scratch coats to backgrounds
  • Unit 123: Fixing sheet materials
  • Unit 124: Applying floating coats to walls
  • Unit 125: Applying setting coats to walls
Entry guidelines

Relevant Entry level qualification or 3 GCSE's at grade 2/E or above and successful completion of a skills test. Satisfactory interview, school report and / or reference.

Equipment Required

Students will be expected to supply their own safety boots, overalls and drawing equipment.

Assessment Method

Assessment will be completed by practical and online tests.

Additional Information

The course requires manual dexterity and physical stamina. You will need to lift and handle tools and materials. Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths (or grade 4 or above).
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

Successful completion of this course may mean you can progress to Level 2 Diploma Plastering or NVQ Level 2 Plastering (if you gain an apprenticeship).
