This course provides an introduction to plumbing at level one within a simulated environment. The qualification is suitable for students who wish to progress to a career within plumbing and gas specialisms.

Course details

The following units will be completed:- Unit 101 Structure of the construction industry Unit 102 Fundamental safe working practices Unit 103 Environmental Unit 104 Site preparation for working in the construction industry Unit 108 Above ground drainage Unit 110 Plastic pressure pipework Unit 111 Low carbon steel Unit 112 Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing steel Unit 113 Plumbing science

Entry guidelines

Relevant Entry level qualification or equivalent or 3 GCSE's at grade 2/E or above and successful completion of a skills test. Satisfactory interview, school report and / or reference.

If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144.

Equipment Required

Students will be required to provide their own safety boots and drawing equipment.

Assessment Method

Assessment will be completed by practical and online tests.

Additional Information

The course requires manual dexterity and physical stamina. You will need to lift and handle tools and materials.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths (grade 4 or above).
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips
