Choosing the Intermediate Digital and Computing Technologies Study Programme is a great decision to make for lots of reasons. You will learn about the online world and technology systems, and develop the skills to create and work with digital assets including audio and graphics, as well as the opportunity to develop apps and work with other software. This qualification will help to make you technology savvy, equipping you with the skills valued by employers. This study programme will also prepare you for progressing onto the next level of study.

Course details

This study programme includes:

  • BTEC Extended Certificate in Information Creative Technology
  • English and maths
  • Employability and work experience

The BTEC Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technology is made up of 10 units.

Three core/mandatory units, two of which are externally assessed with an online examination:

  • The Online World - online examination
  • Technology Systems - online examination
  • A Digital Portfolio

Other units of study:

  • Creative Digital Graphics/Audio/Video
  • Mobile Apps Development
  • Computer Networks
  • Software Development
Entry guidelines

A relevant level 1 qualification or 3 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above (including English Language and maths).

A satisfactory interview, assessment school report or reference.

Assessment Method

Two units are externally assessed by an online examination and the rest of the units are assessed by a series of assignments. Each unit will be graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction and the overall grade achieved at the end of the qualification will be determined by the individual unit grades.

Additional Information

Selection is by interview and academic reference. Regular attendance and commitment to the course is essential.

Where can I progress to?

Employment in a variety of digital and computing environments. Achievement of a merit grade overall together with at least a GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and maths may enable the progression to the next level of study.
