This is a level 3 course.

Course outline

This qualification has been designed for students who want to work in Health and Social Care. The high level of skills required to achieve this qualification also enables students to progress to Higher Education (UCAS tariff points available)

Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that students will progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care which on completion will enable progression into Higher Education.

There is also the option to step off at Certificate and gain employment in a supervised health and Social Care role or top up A levels and progress to Higher Education sooner.

Course details

If you are aged 16-18, your study programme will include your main qualification, English and maths, work experience or preparation for work, and non-study activities such as tutorials or trips.

The course is rewarding, challenging and intensive and requires a great deal of commitment and motivation.

You will need to be able to research and work independently both in college and for a substantial amount of time at home.

Work placement experience is an integral part of the course, which offers UCAS points to enable you to progress into Higher Education.

Units covered in this qualification include, Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care, Human growth and development; Safeguarding, Communication, Infection prevention and control, Psychological perspectives, Sociological perspectives and Working in health and social care:

  • Work placement is a requirement for this qualification 40
  • Entry guidelines

  • Relevant Level 2 qualification plus maths and English Language at grade 4/C or above or four GCSEs at minimum grade C. This must include a grade 4/C or above in maths, science and in English Language.
  • Demonstrate level 2 English in the assessment and interview which includes speaking, listening, reading and writing
  • Collect all of the information required for a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and bring to interview
  • Provide two positive references
  • Present a Record of Achievement from your last school
  • Additional Information

    You will need to show that you are motivated, committed and have excellent punctuality and attendance.

    Work placement to develop vocational competency is arranged in suitable placements

    Where can I progress to?

    When you have successfully completed your course you may be able to progress to a second year to complete the full

    Extended Diploma, with a view to gaining UCAS tariff points in order to access Higher Education. This will be discussed with your course tutor in your progress reviews.

    You will have to achieve a good grade at Certificate level and also have to prove that you have had high levels of motivation, commitment, attendance and punctuality during your certificate level 3 course.

    If you do progress to the Extended Diploma, this will give you an excellent progression opportunity to enter Higher Education with enough UCAS points to apply for a nursing degree if this is your goal. See below for points available on completion of Diploma.

    Assessment Method

    In order to achieve the CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care you must complete 9 mandatory units and an Effective Practice Study Task (externally set, externally marked).

    Fee : £3200.00
