Course outline

This very practical travel industry study programme is designed to enable students to develop their skills, knowledge, understanding and experience of the various exciting sectors of the travel and tourism industry ready for progression into employment or on to further study.

Course details

This study programme will provide students with the opportunity to gain a good understanding of the numerous career options within the travel industry. It is designed to ensure students learn the necessary skills and gain valuable experience which will enable them to apply for employment within the various sectors of the travel industry or progress on to a higher level qualification.

The study programme is delivered in a practical way by lecturers who have travel industry experience and can bring the subjects to life.

Units studied will include:

Worldwide Travel and Tourism Destinations

Travel and Tourism Support Services

Preparing for the start of the holiday season (resort representatives)

Understanding the role of a representative in resort

Manage airport and transport duties

There will also be a number of day visits that all students are expected to take part in to widen their experience of the travel industry.

Entry guidelines

Priority will be given to those aged 16-18 years old

Entry requirements are 3 GCSEs at a minimum grade D or a relevant level 1 qualification.

Satisfactory interview to assess motivation, previous experience if applicable, communication skills and career planning.

Additional Information

Part of this study programme (Award for Resort Representatives) has been endorsed by Thomas Cook, who have indicated that the qualification meets their needs for well-trained overseas staff. In recognition of this Thomas Cook will guarantee an interview for those who successfully pass the qualification and meet their minimum criteria.

This course will include days out and trip throughout the year.
 
It is a vocational course and learners will be expected to take part in all activities during the year. This course may require students to wear a uniform, further information will be given in due course.
 
Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (or grade 4 or above) in English and maths.
Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

Where can I progress to?

This qualification can lead to progression onto BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Travel and Tourism or BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Aviation Operations on the Ground.You could progress to these Wirral Met courses:

Assessment Method

The qualification is assessed via coursework ( eg workbooks, assignments, role plays & practical sessions). Coursework will be varied and there will be plenty of opportunities for students to work in their preferred style.

Equipment Required

Students are expected to wear a uniform which reflects the professional image of the travel industry. The details of the uniform will be discussed during the application process.
