Course outline

The NEBOSH National General Certificate is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK with over 100,000 people having gained the qualification. It is suitable for managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations making day-to-day decisions at work that need a broad understanding of health and safety issues and be able to manage risks effectively.

Course details

The NGC2 unit comprises 8 elements;

Element 1: Workplace hazards and risk control

Element 2: Transport hazards and risk control

Element 3: Musculoskeletal hazards and risk control

Element 4: Work equipment hazards and risk control

Element 5: Electrical safety

Element 6: Fire safety

Element 7: Chemical and biological health hazards and control

Element 8: Physical and psychological health hazards and risk control

The NGC3 unit comprises a safety inspection of a workplace identifying common hazards, followed by a report to management outlining the issues identified and urging them to take appropriate and cost effective actions.

Entry guidelines

There are no specific barriers, in terms of academic qualifications, skills or experience to this course. Ideally you should have at least two years work experience in any area of work and have a level 2 English qualification or equivalent. The standard of English required by the candidates studying for this award must be such that they can both understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

If English is not your first language you should be qualified to IELTS 6.0 or higher.

Additional Information

These two units must be combined with NEBOSH unit NGC1 to gain the full NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. See separate leaflets for details. A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. A Certificate award parchment is issued on completion of all three units.

Assessment Method

NGC2 is assessed by a two hour written examination marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

NGC3 is assessed by a two hour practical examination carried out in the candidate's own workplace, marked by the tutor/assessors and moderated by NEBOSH
