Course outline

This one day course is the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) as approved by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Course details

You will study:
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Recognition and treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Dealing with choking
  • Recognition and treatment of shock
  • Treating a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • Appropriate first aid for minor injuries, burns and scalds

Entry guidelines

There are no formal entry requirements for the course.

Communication skills - You will be able to communicate on a one to one basis and in a group as part of a discussion.

Literacy - Much of the course is presented in written form. You will need the ability to read and understand this material.

Manual dexterity and physical stamina - You will need the ability to kneel and bend in order to take part in the practical exercises.

Additional Information

Bespoke training courses can be developed to suit your particular business. This will be delivered by a qualified trainer in the workplace or if you prefer, at the college.

Where can I progress to?

Future opportunities: Full First Aid at Work Certificate. The course also provides a useful starting point for basic first aid training and is used by some schools as a staff inset provision and by industry for short courses.
