Course outline

This is a two year part-time qualification which gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context.

It is designed to lead to an employed or voluntary role in a counselling agency in both health care and non-medical settings. Learners with sufficient experience can also begin working as independent practitioners in private practice.

Course details

This course aims to provide you with self awareness and developed listening skills which may enhance your current job roles. This qualification is a requirement to work as a counsellor.

4. Working within a user-centred approach to counselling

5. Working with self awareness in the counselling process

6. Working within a coherent framework of counselling theory and skills

7. Working self reflectively as a counsellor

Entry guidelines

CSK L2 and CST L3 or equivalent.

Additional Information

85% attendance is required but 100% is expected due to the experiential nature of the course.

Please be aware that if your long term goal is to work with vulnerable adults or any person under the age of 18, it will be necessary to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at any required college work placement, or eventual place of work.

Please note there are additional costs related to the course. These will be outlined at interview but include personal therapy, fees for membership of a professional body, personal indemnity insurance, supervision and 2 weekend residentials.

Assessment Method

Continuous skills and personal development assessment together with a range of assignments, case studies, case presentations, self reviews and professional reports. There is an exam in the second year of the programme which is externally verified by the CPCAB.
