This is an entry level course.

Course outline

The aim of this course is to offer a starting point for you to acquire skills and build your confidence to progress on to further learning, employment or volunteering.

The course examines the subject of Sociology and how we function as a society. It will give you some of the basic concepts in the area and is a starting point for how society can shape our lives, culture and politics

Course details

The course will cover the following topics: Sociology Theory, Class, Education, Family and Social Inequality.

Entry guidelines

You do not need formal qualifications,

You must be able to interpret written tasks, be willing to work independently, write answers in a legible and understandable form and organise written information clearly and coherently.

Where can I progress to?

There are a number of programmes you can move onto from this course, for example Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Forensic Psychology, Introduction to Criminal Justice or Introduction to Criminology.

Depending on previous qualifications, you may want to consider a progression course such as Pre Access to Humanities and Social Science.

Assessment Method

You will be assessed by completing a work booklet that consists of a variety of tasks related to the subject, such as, short answer questions, completing tables, finding information, identifying evidence and writing about the subject.


You will receive a Wirral Met College certificate to acknowledge your attendance and learning, and understanding of the subject at this level.
