This is a level 1 course.

Course outline

The Carpentry and Joinery Level 1 Diploma is designed to prepare people to enter the industry in their chosen craft. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions.

Course details

This course will enable you to study a wide range of skills, all of which will help you on your chosen career pathway, moving into employment or further training. You will get the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification linked to your chosen career.

You will be given support and guidance throughout your learning journey and your progress will be reviewed with you regularly.

Units:

Unit 101/501 - Principles of building construction, information and communication

Unit 113 - Maintain and use carpentry and joinery hand tools

Unit 114 - Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools

Unit 115 - Produce woodworking joints

Unit 201/601 - Health, safety and welfare in construction

Entry guidelines

Relevant Entry level qualification or equivalent or 3 GCSE's at grade 2/E or above and successful completion of a skills test.

Satisfactory interview, school report and / or satisfactory reference.

Additional Information

The course requires manual dexterity and physical stamina. You will need to lift and handle tools and materials.

Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths (grade 4 or above)
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

Where can I progress to?

Successful completion of this course may mean you can progress to Carpentry & Joinery Level 2 Diploma or NVQ Level 2 in Wood Occupations (if you gain an apprenticeship).

Equipment Required

Steel toecap safety boots, drawing equipment e.g scale ruler, pencils, pens, will be required.
