This is a level 3 course.

Course outline

This course is aimed at young people who wish to work in the rewarding Social Care sector. The course focuses on improving your knowledge and practical work placement skills to help you find work within the sector.

Course details

This Level 3 Certificate is vocationally based and includes topics such as:

  • Role of the Social Care Worker.
  • Person-Centred Planning.
  • Duty of Care.
  • There will also be a substantial element of work placement, where you can gain practical skills and knowledge of the Social Care sector.

    Entry guidelines

    Relevant Level 2 qualification plus English and maths at grade 4/C or above or 4 GCSE's including English and maths at grade 4/C or above.

    Satisfactory interview, assessment and school report and/or reference.

    Additional Information

    You need to show a good standard of IT, show motivation and consideration for others.

    Work placement for this qualification is a compulsory part of this course. All students will be subject to the DBS Disclosure and Barring Services (formly CRB)
    Are you aged 16-18?
    Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
    • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
    • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
    • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (grade 4 or above) in English and maths
    • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

    Where can I progress to?

    This course and your work placement should give you a head start in finding employment in the Health and Social Care sector. The knowledge gained will be recognized by employer/apprenticeship frameworks.

    Assessment Method

    Students are assessed through assignments and workbooks. Assignments will include practical activities on work placement.

    Equipment Required

    No specialist equipment, work placement T Shirt will be provided.

    This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with a Learning Development Needs Assessment or an Education, Health & Care Plan.

    If you are aged 19 or over:

    Fee : £750.00

    Depending on your personal circumstances, this course could be FREE for you if you are aged 19-23. Please see our Fees and Discounts leaflet, or call 0151 551 7777.
    If you are aged 19+, you may be able to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan (which is available for some courses at level 3-6).

    The fee quoted is for the academic year 2016-17. Course fees for 2017-18 will be confirmed in due course.
