Flight Lieutenant, Ed Stephens recently visited Wirral Met College’s Oval Campus to present the Public Services department with the prestigious RAF platinum partnership award. The RAF works in partnership with seven hundred and fifty schools and colleges nationally and Wirral Met is one of only fifty schools and colleges who have platinum partnership with the RAF.

As partners, Wirral Met will benefit from all the new initiatives provided by the RAF recruitment team including visits from members of the RAF to give personal training and development, outdoor team building activities, access to the RAF Aintree centre, activities and trips for students to take part in.

Flight Lieutenant Ed Stephens who has 14 years’ service with the RAF commented, “The RAF are excited to continue our long standing relationship with Wirral Met College”. Ed presented the plaque to Amy Jones, current Military Preparation Level 3 student. Amy plans to follow in his footsteps, and join the RAF after completing her course. She is working hard to improve her maths in order to complete the selection process to join the RAF as either a chef or a medic.

Wirral Met College’s Oval Campus was opened recently, offering a range of Uniformed and Public Services qualifications, underpinned by English, maths and ICT. Students progress from Wirral Met College into careers in the Armed Forces, Emergency Services, and, of course, some progress to university en route to their chosen career.

Lewis Lee Jones studied at Wirral Met College on the NCFE Pre-Uniformed Services course and is now in the Royal Marines Commando, based in Plymouth. Lewis was working in a local supermarket before he started at the college, he said he chose the course as he felt it would help him to accomplish his end goal. Before studying at Wirral Met, Lewis was studying at Bebington High Sports College.

He went on to comment about the college and the course, “Confidence was my main improvement, I felt my communication skills had improved and my self-value. I would recommend Wirral Met College”.

The specialist courses at Wirral Met prepare students for their chosen careers. Students studying on Public Services, Sport, Outdoor Education and Adventure Sport programmes will be based at the Oval Campus in Bebington, next to the Oval Leisure Centre. The excellent facilities at this campus, along with the outdoor activities, exhibitions and events which are run in conjunction with the Armed Forces, Police, and Fire Service make great preparation for a career in this sector.
