If you are a mature student and do not have the traditional qualifications such as 'A' Levels then this is the course for you. The Access to HE Diploma is a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification that will enable you to meet the entry requirements for University.
On this course you will study subjects relating to Education. You will also study one national curriculum subject. With this qualification you can pursue a career in Primary school teaching, Education studies or gain entry to a national curriculum subject Degree, such as English or History to then go on to complete a PGCE. You will have the opportunity to develop your research and study skills, as well the underpinning subject knowledge needed for higher education. To achieve the Diploma you will gain 60 credits (all level 3) 45 of which will be graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction. Before embarking on your studies it is your responsibility to ensure you know the entry requirements of your chosen Degree programme.
You will need 4 GCSE's grade 4/C or above including English and Maths (and Science if you wish to go into Primary Education). You must evidence previous study within the last 5 years at level 2. Complete a successful interview with assessment comprehension task. You must be working / volunteering in an education setting and be able to provide evidence of this by way of a reference.

Once you have made an application you will be invited to an Information Evening. At the Information Evenings we will give you further information regarding the course, career routes, progression to University and HE degree programmes available at Wirral Met College. You will also able to book an interview with us, if you meet the entry requirements. If you do not meet the course entry requirements then you may be offered an interview for our Pre Access Humanities which provides you the opportunity to gain GCSE Maths and English, as well as relevant subject knowledge.
You will be assessed on the programme using a variety of different methods. Exams, reports, essays, presentations and independent research reports are all designed to prepare you for Higher Education.
You will need to check with your chosen University their minimum entry requirements for GCSE English and Maths (Science). You will also need to check whether they require a Pass, Merit or Distinction profile for the Diploma.
This programme is for those students who wish to progress to University to study a Degree in Education, Teaching or a vocational subject Cert Ed. Wirral Met College offers a Cert Ed. Qualification.
